Chapter Six – Just WORK
Hey everyone, it’s Dr. Donna again. This time around we are talking about the importance of working. Work, work, work. Why is work so important? Is it simply to earn an income so we can pay bills, have a place to live, and food on the table? Or is there more to it? God wants us to work because it provides opportunities to learn the skills of persistence, diligence, time management, and even attention to detail. And guess what creature he uses to explain the value of work? God uses the ant – an insect that is small and appears unimportant. However, God demonstrates with the ant’s life that success comes when we faithfully work. One thing to remember, though… We work – not to greedily collect wealth but because work allows us to use our blessings to show God’s goodness and to help others.
Here are a few about how and why God wants us to work:
- Diligence will lead to riches, not only material wealth but spiritual abundance – Proverbs 10:4
- We should work hard so that we can reap the benefits – Proverbs 10:5
- We should work but not because of greed – Proverbs 25:16
Dr. Donna’s Everyday Lesson for Parents:
Parents, do you foster a good work ethic in your children? If yes, great job! If not, no worries – there’s no time like the present to begin teaching them the value of working hard. We need to guide our children to know that blessings are given to those that work for them. However, don’t forget our children also learn by watching us! So be sure to model for them a good work attitude!
Dr. Donna’s Everyday Lesson for Kids:
Kids, you watch your parents go to work every day, but did you know work is not only for adults, there is also work that children do! You work in school, you work when you complete your household chores, and you may even work on a project at church or in your community groups.
